How to launch a meme coin on Pump.fun
This is how to launch a meme coin on Pump.fun from a Phantom wallet, start to finish. It covers what the bonding curve does, what graduation means, what the create form asks for, and which fields people get wrong. If you want the name, ticker, story and image prepared from what graduated this week, the meme coin generator on this site does that part before you open Pump.fun.
Two things before you start. Pump.fun charges no fee to create a coin, but the standard trading fee applies to your own first buy, so check pump.fun/docs/fees for the current figure. And most Pump.fun coins never graduate and many go to zero, so treat every SOL you put in as money you can lose.

What actually happens when you launch on Pump.fun
When you click Create, Pump.fun deploys a token on Solana and puts its supply on a bonding curve. A bonding curve is a pricing formula. Each buy moves the price up by a set amount and each sell moves it down. There is no order book and no market maker. The curve is the counterparty for every trade.
Trading opens the moment the transaction confirms. There is no waiting period, no liquidity pool to set up and no listing step. Your coin appears on the Pump.fun board within seconds, next to every other coin created that minute.
When enough SOL has been bought into the curve, the curve completes. Pump.fun then moves the liquidity to PumpSwap, its own exchange, and the coin trades there as a normal pair. This is graduation. The SOL threshold is set by Pump.fun and can change, so read pump.fun/docs/create-coin for the current number instead of trusting a screenshot from last year.
Since May 2025, creators earn a share of the trading fees on their coin. The share is paid to the wallet that created the coin, and the rate is published on pump.fun/docs/fees. It accrues from trades, not from holding, so it only matters if people trade your coin.
What to prepare before you click Create
The create form has five required fields and three optional links. Fill them in a text file first. Editing inside the form under time pressure is how typos end up on-chain.
- Name. Keep it short. Use the meme’s common name, capitalised the way people already write it. Pump.fun caps the length in the form.
- Ticker. All caps, letters only if you can. Three to five letters read best in a trade feed. Check that nothing with the same ticker is already trending on Pump.fun today.
- Description. One or two sentences that state what the meme is and where it came from. Write the story first and the joke second.
- Image. A square PNG or JPG. Pump.fun scales it to a small thumbnail on the board, so test it at 40 pixels wide before uploading. If the subject is not recognisable at that size, crop tighter.
- Website, X, Telegram. Optional. Every link you add must resolve before launch. A placeholder that 404s reads as a rug signal.
The Pump.fun meme coin generator prefills all of these. It reads the tokens that graduated on Pump.fun in the last seven days, groups them by theme, and builds a name, ticker, story, image and socials from the strongest runner in the theme you pick. You get three generations a day without signing in; Pro is unlimited. Edit anything you want, then copy the fields into Pump.fun.
Step by step: launching on Pump.fun
You need Phantom installed, a small amount of SOL in it for network fees and the optional first buy, and your prepared fields. The whole process takes under five minutes once the fields are ready.
- Open pump.fun and connect Phantom. Approve the connection in the wallet popup. This step signs nothing and moves no funds.
- Click Create coin. Paste your name, ticker and description from your text file.
- Upload the image. Check the preview at the size Pump.fun renders it on the board.
- Add your website, X and Telegram links if you have them. Open each one in a new tab to confirm it loads.
- Decide on the initial buy. Enter a SOL amount or leave it empty. The trading fee applies to this buy; the creation itself has no fee.
- Click Create. Phantom opens a review screen showing the transaction and the SOL leaving your wallet. Read it. This is your last chance to cancel.
- Approve in Phantom. The transaction confirms in a few seconds. Only your wallet signs; no site holds your keys.
- Open your coin page from the confirmation. Copy the contract address. That address is what you share, not a screenshot.
- Post the address to your socials before anyone launches a copy with the same name.
The initial buy decision
The initial buy, often called the dev buy, is a purchase you make in the same transaction that creates the coin. It buys tokens from the bonding curve at the starting price, before anyone else can.
What it does: it puts a starting price on the chart, it means your wallet holds a visible share, and it means you pay the standard trading fee on that amount. What it does not do: it does not add liquidity in the normal sense, it does not lock anything, and it does not make the coin graduate. Graduation comes from other people buying.
Buyers look at the creator’s holding on the coin page. A large creator position tells them you can sell into their buys. A zero position tells them you have nothing at stake. This guide gives no number. The right amount depends on your budget and on what you are willing to lose, and you should assume the second figure is all of it.
Mistakes that kill launches
These failures show up on the Pump.fun board every hour. Each one is avoidable before you click Create.
- Unreadable ticker. Numbers, lowercase, or eight characters nobody can say aloud. If it cannot be typed from memory it will not be searched.
- An image that fails at 40 pixels. Detailed art, small text and dark subjects on dark backgrounds turn into a smudge on the board. Test the thumbnail.
- No story. A description that only says the coin is going up gives a trader nothing to repeat. State the meme, the source and why now.
- Socials that 404. A dead Telegram link is worse than no link. Create the group first, then launch.
- Launching into a dead theme. If the meme peaked last week, you are competing with thirty coins that already used it. Check what graduated in the last seven days and which themes are still getting new coins.
- A ticker collision. The same ticker as a coin already on the board that day sends your buyers to the wrong page.
- Typos in the name. The name, ticker and image are written into the token’s metadata by the launch transaction. Treat every field as final and check it in the Phantom review screen.
After launch: the first hour
The first hour decides whether anyone besides you trades the coin. Share the contract address, not the name, in every place you have. Pin it in the Telegram group. Put it in the X bio. People search by address, and a copied address cannot land on a copycat.
Watch the bonding curve progress on the coin page. Pump.fun shows how far along the curve is. Reply to buyers in the group. Buyers who get answered come back and post about it.
If the curve completes, Pump.fun migrates liquidity to PumpSwap and the coin page marks it as graduated. From then on it trades on PumpSwap, and your creator fee share continues from trades there. If the curve stalls, the coin sits on the board and drops down the list as new coins arrive. Most coins stall. Decide in advance how long you will keep promoting one that is not moving.
Questions
Is it free to create a coin on Pump.fun?
Creating a coin has no creation fee. You pay the Solana network fee for the transaction, and the standard trading fee applies to any initial buy. Check pump.fun/docs/fees for the current figure.
How long does it take to graduate?
There is no fixed time. Graduation happens when buyers push the bonding curve to completion. Some coins do it in minutes and most never do. The SOL threshold is set by Pump.fun; read pump.fun/docs/create-coin for the current number.
Can I launch on Pump.fun without coding?
Yes. The create form handles the token program, the metadata and the bonding curve. You need a Phantom wallet, some SOL and your prepared fields. No code is involved.
Do I need an initial buy?
No. The field is optional. Without one you hold zero tokens at launch and the first buyer sets the first traded price. With one you pay the trading fee on that amount and hold a visible position that other buyers can see.
What is the Pump.fun creator fee?
Since May 2025 the wallet that created a coin earns a share of the trading fees on it, both on the bonding curve and after graduation. The rate is published at pump.fun/docs/fees and can change.
What happens to my coin after it graduates?
Pump.fun moves the liquidity to PumpSwap and the coin trades there as a normal pair. The coin page stays live, the contract address does not change, and your creator fee share continues from PumpSwap trades.
